Brandon Johnson joined the Arnold Palmer Design team in 2006 following a very successful tenure as Manager of Design for The First Tee where he was instrumental in assisting the budding organization reach its 250 Phase 1 facility goals. Johnson is a graduate of North Carolina State University where he earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with a minor in Music. Upon graduating from NCSU, Johnson advanced his education at the Harvard Graduate School of Design earning his Masters degree in Landscape Architecture in 1999.
Brandon’s passion for playing golf led him to discover and study the art, architecture and classic design principles behind the game. His inspiration and influence can be found from Donald Ross and Pete Dye.These influences can be traced to his strengths as a designer through his love of large scale master planning, respect for the environment and belief in golf course routings that lay softly on the land while expressing site features in a unique way.
The blending of his love and passion for golf, architecture, art and the outdoors, allows Johnson to express his golf soul and create fun, intriguing and timeless courses that engage the mind and intellect of each player across all skill levels.
“The design process is meant to be fun, loose, rigorous and sometimes exhausting through the exploration of plentiful ideas,” Johnson says. “The ultimate goal is discovering fresh, unique and creative solutions that thrill our clients, excite the player and utilize the land to the fullestand the best way to achieve this is constant time in the field from site evaluation through construction.”
Johnson is responsible for all aspects of a project from client relations, contract execution, site evaluation, concept design through construction and field design.
In addition to his captivating golf course designs, Johnson, a husband and father of two, serves on TFT Central Florida Board and has presented talks on golf course design, construction and Brownfield development at several venues around the world. When not playing golf he can be found enjoying music or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
