Cherokee Run Golf Club was designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay of the Arnold Palmer Design Group. The course was designed with the following philosophy: "The sky is the limit!," according to past City Manager Roland Vaughn. "We took a 250 acre parcel within the 1,400 acre horse park and said to the Palmer Course Design folks, "Here's the canvas, you paint a picture emphasizing the natural beauty of the land." The rolling, thickly wooded site had been occupied for centuries by Cherokee Indians. During course construction, Project Architect Harrison Minchew said he found dozens of arrowheads in the red clay soil. "It was like finding shark's teeth on the beach," exclaimed the elated course developer. Cherokee Run provides for numerous unexpected adventures. Palmer Course Design thinks that this is one of the "great golf courses of the world." Mr.. Palmer stated, "If you think anything of Augusta and what you've seen over the years.....as far as great golf courses are concerned, I certainly think it is one of the great golf courses of the world."
